Research Institutes and Centers
The Life Science and Technology Institute enhances interdisciplinary life science research by bringing together faculty, research associates, and students with different expertise to collaborate and carry out new research activities. LSTI promotes research and education in medical technologies, human health research, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, plant science, bioinformatics, and biotechnology to benefit society and the environment. LSTI assists in facility procurement and maintenance, and promotes and contributes to education and research in life sciences and technology.
The mission of Joint Center of Biocomputing and Digital Health (BDH) is to conduct research, develop innovative solutions, and provide educational opportunities in the areas of biocomputing and digital health, enhancing Michigan Tech’s ability to recruit and retain high-quality researchers and students, elevating Michigan Tech’s presence in developing technologies for healthcare delivery, and increasing knowledge sharing in the global community.
Cybersecurity is the number one priority listed on the 2015 President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology report, which pinpoints the need to examine closely eight specific areas critical to the future of Information Technology. In addition to researching and developing information security and biometrics, privacy protection, trusted software engineering, security in mobile computing and wireless communications, CyberS contributes to the growth of Michigan Tech’s newly proposed master's program in cybersecurity.
The Center for Data Sciences (DataS) focuses on the research of data sciences education, algorithms, mathematics, and applications. DataS fosters interdisciplinary collaborations by bringing together diverse faculty and students from varied disciplines to discover new knowledge and exciting research opportunities in the field of data sciences.
Research on human-centered computing has expanded, from user interface design and evaluation to creation of entire user experiences, novel lifestyles, and human values. The designing, building, and evaluating of computational technologies should be related to people’s capabilities, limitations, and environments, and should reflect how these technologies affect society. By leveraging our broad expertise in people and technology, the HCC Center enables the ICC to lead this timely effort. We integrate art, people, design, technology, and experiences, and conduct novel experiments and research on multiple areas in human-centered computing. The HCC Center prepares Michigan Tech students to become future creators with balanced viewpoints, by educating their computing side, their human side, and their interactions.
