Build Expertise in Bridge Analysis and Design

Bridges must withstand a variety of loads and forces while spanning waterways, valleys, and other obstacles. Bridge analysis examines how these structures behave under different loading conditions, while bridge design applies engineering principles to develop safe, reliable structures.

Michigan Tech's on-campus and online Bridge Analysis and Design Graduate Certificate focuses on using modern structural analysis tools and techniques to evaluate bridge structures under static and dynamic loading conditions. Deepen your understanding of bridge behavior, structural materials, and the principles that guide bridge design.

Who is This Certificate For?

This certificate is designed for civil and structural engineers and other qualified engineering professionals who want to expand their knowledge of bridge analysis and design. It's also a good fit for graduate students developing a concentration in structural engineering or strengthening their preparation for bridge-related engineering work.

What You Need to Know

You'll study bridge behavior and design, including preliminary design and layout, bridge decks and foundations, and steel and prestressed concrete structures. Through practical exercises, you'll learn to apply the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' Load and Resistance Factor Design (AASHTO LRFD) specifications. Elective coursework offers additional study in prestressed concrete, concrete and masonry building systems, or advanced steel design.

Admissions

To enroll in this certificate program, students must have a bachelor's degree in civil, environmental or related degree. See complete admissions requirements.
