Go Beyond the Basics When Analyzing Structures

What happens when a structure deforms significantly, experiences a dynamic load, or is pushed beyond the point where materials behave elastically? Standard structural analysis methods may not be enough to predict how it will respond.

Advanced structural analysis uses more sophisticated mathematical and computational methods to examine complex structures and behaviors. Michigan Tech’s on-campus and online Structural Engineering: Advanced Analysis Graduate Certificate will equip you to creatively and holistically examine and design structures for safety, durability, aesthetics, efficiency, and sustainability. Develop the skill set to analyze structures under demanding loading and deformation conditions and make informed design decisions.

Who is This Certificate For?

This certificate is designed for civil, structural, and other qualified engineering professionals who want to deepen their expertise in structural analysis. It can help you expand your technical capabilities, prepare for more advanced structural engineering work, or build a foundation for continued graduate study.

Degree-seeking students can also use the certificate to develop a focused area of expertise within their graduate education.

What You Need to Know

Advanced structural analysis examines structural behavior that may not be captured adequately by simpler analytical approaches. You’ll study structures subjected to static and dynamic loads, including those involving large deformations, post-yield behavior, and nonstandard or unusual geometries.

The 9-credit certificate builds proficiency with modern structural analysis tools and techniques. Coursework includes Matrix Structural Analysis, with elective options such as Advanced Structural Analysis, Finite Element Analysis, and Structural Dynamics. Credits earned through the certificate may also be applied toward a Michigan Tech graduate degree.
