Direct Deposit or Paper Check

Michigan Technological University offers employees two methods for receiving payroll compensation: direct deposit or a paper check.

There are two separate direct deposit options in Experience:

  • Payroll Direct Deposit for wages and salary

  • Accounts Payable Direct Deposit for reimbursements and other non-payroll payments

Important: These are separate enrollments. To receive all university payments electronically, enroll in both Payroll Direct Deposit and Accounts Payable Direct Deposit.

Payroll Direct Deposit

Payroll Direct Deposit is used for your regular paycheck.

  • Can be split across multiple bank accounts

  • Can use flat dollar amounts, percentages, and priority order

  • One account should be set to Remaining Amount

  • If Payroll Direct Deposit is not active, a paper check will be issued

Accounts Payable Direct Deposit

Accounts Payable Direct Deposit is used for payments outside of payroll, such as:

  • Travel reimbursements

  • Mileage reimbursements

  • Refunds

  • Other approved reimbursements

Accounts Payable Direct Deposit is separate from Payroll Direct Deposit and applies only to non-payroll payments.

How to Set Up Direct Deposit

In Experience, you may see these options:

  • Pay Distributions — view where your most recent pay was sent

  • Payroll Deposit — set up or update Payroll Direct Deposit

  • Accounts Payable Deposit — set up direct deposit for reimbursements and other non-payroll payments

To update your information:

  1. Log in to Experience

  2. Open the appropriate deposit section

  3. Enter or update your banking information

  4. Save your changes

Note: For Payroll Direct Deposit changes, you may be asked to verify your current account information before making updates.

New or Returning Employees

If you are new to Michigan Tech or returning after a break in employment, review your direct deposit and mailing address in Experience.

If Payroll Direct Deposit is not active, your pay will be issued as a paper check and mailed to the address on file.

Paper Checks

Employees without active Payroll Direct Deposit will receive a paper check mailed to their address on record.

Please make sure your mailing address is current to avoid delays.
