Biography

Estela Mira Barreda (Assistant Teaching Professor) received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from her home University, Jaume I in Spain, a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education with a Bilingual and an ESL endorsement from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and a M.Ed. in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia in Spain.

During her time at MTU, Estela has been nominated as a Teaching Excellence Award Finalist two years in a row. She developed one of the first essential education experience courses, partnering with Houghton Middle School to bring Spanish language and culture to middle school students. She is also involved in spreading the Spanish language in the community, partnering with the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program to offer free Spanish Language classes to adults in the community at the Portage Lake District Library.
