Biography
Leyre Alegre Figuero brings more than two decades of experience teaching Spanish at the university level in the United States and abroad. Since 2013, she teaches in Houghton, where she enjoys sharing her language and cultural background with students while building lasting connections within the community.
She earned her B.A. in Translation and Interpretation from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and her M.A. in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the Universidad Central de Barcelona. Her career has included eight years at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, and she has taught Spanish and French at all levels. She has developed Spanish for the Professions courses such as Spanish for the Medical Field, Legal Field and Translation, and has been actively developing the Essential Education Global Cultures Minor.
In addition to her academic work, Leyre is a professional translator specialized in the pharmaceutical, mental health and medical fields. She is an active member of the American Translators Association (ATA) and serves as secretary of MiTiN (Michigan Translators/Interpreters Network).
