Biography

How do non-experts—including, for example, scientists who are not expert in the issue under discussion—inform themselves and make decisions about social, political, and ethical implications of developments in science, technology, and medicine?  And what roles do (or might) rhetoric, risk communication, and journalism play in these processes?

Dr. Craig Waddell has studied these questions in a number of contexts, including recombinant DNA research, human population growth, sustainable development, Great Lakes water quality, use of synthetic pesticides, and, most recently, climate change.
