Be a Strong Leader in the Manufacturing Sector

From the fit of a single component to the operation of an entire production line, successful manufacturing requires precision, coordination, and informed decisions. Manufacturing engineering focuses on the processes, systems, and technologies used to transform designs into finished products. This field brings together engineering principles, production methods, quality considerations, and manufacturing operations.

Michigan Tech's Manufacturing Engineering Graduate Certificate, offered online and on campus, combines technical coursework with organizational leadership. You'll strengthen your understanding of manufacturing standards, effective communication, and the technologies shaping modern production.

Who is This Certificate For?

This certificate is designed for engineers and manufacturing professionals who want to strengthen their knowledge of production processes, technical standards, and organizational leadership. It's also a good fit for graduate students seeking a concentration in manufacturing engineering or additional expertise to complement their existing education.

What You Need to Know

You'll study organizational leadership and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), a standardized system for communicating manufacturing specifications and acceptable variations in manufactured parts. Coursework covers team building, ethical decision-making, geometric symbols, datum reference frames, and assembly tolerance analysis. You'll also choose an elective: either Industry 4.0 Concepts, which examines technologies such as smart factories and computer simulation; or Design for Additive Manufacturing, which explores how production methods and choices affect the integrity of manufactured parts.
