Examine the Systems That Keep Technology on Track

What keeps a vehicle traveling at a set speed, a drone stable in changing conditions, or an industrial robot moving precisely along its intended path? Behind each is a control system: a combination of sensors, controllers, and feedback that monitors how a system is performing and makes adjustments to achieve a desired result.

Control systems, then, are fundamental to technologies across automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics, and manufacturing. Michigan Tech’s on-campus and online Control Systems Graduate Certificate helps you build the knowledge to model, analyze, simulate, and design controls for dynamic systems. Develop skills you can apply across a wide range of engineering applications while preparing for more advanced work in controls and automation.

Who is this Certificate For?

This certificate is for qualified professionals who want to enhance their skill set and can be a foundation to continue toward a graduate degree. It is also valuable for degree-seeking students looking to develop a concentration that gives them an edge in their career path.

What You Need to Know

In the graduate certificate in Control Systems program, you will mathematically model and analyze complex dynamic processes and apply feedback control laws capable of stabilizing systems and achieving performance goals. You'll deepen your understanding of linear algebra, modern control; state-based design of linear systems, observability, controllability, pole placement, observer design, stability theory of linear time-varying systems, Lyapunov stability, optimal control, linear quadratic regulator, and Kalman filter.
