Career Services offers presentations for groups on campus including classes and student
organizations. We can present to your group on a variety of career-related topics. Please give us a minimum of one week's notice for all events. We will make every effort to work with you and fulfill your request, but we cannot
guarantee availability with less than one week's notice or for events scheduled to
take place after 5 p.m.

The following presentations are organized around the professional development competencies
identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). NACE is a professional organization that connects college career educators and business
recruiters to provide resources and research identifying best practices for professional
development and recruiting. The NACE competencies are a set of transferable skills
that are highly sought by employers and that prepare students to excel academically
and thrive professionally. All of these presentations are available upon request.

Reflection, Exploration, and Goal Setting
You have to start somewhere. Figure out how to leverage your strengths and improve
upon weaknesses to prepare for your future.

Resume and/or Cover Letter Writing
A recruiter may only spend 5 seconds looking at a resume. We will review the content
and organization necessary for an effective resume
Cover letters may be the determining factor in the final decision. The key is quality
over quantity. We will discuss strategies to ensure the cover letter shows a clear
match between the student and the job/company.
Get ready to draft a resume and/or cover letter. Have your personal information and
work history handy.

Experiential Learning Opportunities (Internships & Co-ops)
Related experience is first on a recruiter’s list of must-haves. This is an overall
look at the internship/co-op job search, hiring process, and key strategies for a
successful work experience. Learn about opportunities to apply your knowledge in real
life — job shadowing, informational interviews, internships, and co-ops — and why
they’re valuable.

An interview is like any performance…. it takes practice, skill, and strategy. We
will discuss strategies and tips, including the STAR method.

Congrats, you got the offer! Ensure you have the tools to evaluate and negotiate (if
and when you should).

Many underestimate the power of an introduction. When asked, “Tell me about yourself,”
what do they really want to know? Is networking as scary as it seems? It doesn't have
to be.
94% of recruiters use LinkedIn to vet candidates. Is your profile ready? Students
will learn how to write an effective summary, key profile components, and how to make
LinkedIn work for you.
Make a lasting impression with an in person elevator pitch, or virtually through online
platforms in 30 seconds or less. Ready, set, go!

Only 20% of jobs are posted on the internet. Students will learn skills and strategies
for an effective search. Search smarter, not harder. Unlock possibilities, and create
an action plan that will get you going.
We can present this workshop in the Career Services Learning Center or in the Van
Pelt & Opie Library, in collaboration with library research staff, with additional
reference resources.

You don’t know what you don’t know. A college degree may get you the job, but it doesn't
