Proposal to Shelve Degree Program: Graduate Certificate in Data Science

Submitted by: Data Science Executive Committee
Contact: Laura Brown, Graduate Program Director, Data Science

1. Full name of program to be shelved
Graduate Certificate in Data Science (IDSC)

2. Final term program will be open for new admits
Fall 2020

3. Plan to complete all enrolled and returning students
There is only one current student who has expressed interest in obtaining the certificate. The Data Science program will continue to advise enrolled students and teach the courses (or consult with other campus units to continue to teach the courses) required for the certificate.

4. Reason for shelving
In late Spring 2020, the Data Science program created a new 9-credit graduate certificate in Data Science Foundations (follows a stackable certificate model). The new Data Science Foundations certificate is intended as a replacement for this to-be-shelved certificate.

5. Financial impact (if any) to the department and university
There are no known financial impacts to the Data Science program or to the University.
