The residence hall operating calendar is designed to provide Residential Living services when the university’s academic calendar is in session. While the residence halls are meant to feel like home, they are not permanent residences and only operate in alignment with the academic year.
Because of this, it’s important for students and their families/support networks to plan ahead for times when residential services are limited or unavailable. Interruptions in housing services fall into two categories: breaks and closures.
Breaks
Students are permitted to stay, but services may be limited. Students must register if they plan to remain for any part of the break to ensure their access remains active. There is no charge for staying during break periods, but students are responsible for their own meals. For the 2025-2026 school year, scheduled breaks are:
- Thanksgiving Break: Saturday, November 22- 9 a.m. Sunday, November 30, 2025 (halls remain open; no meals provided until dinner November 30)
- Spring Break: Saturday, February, 28-9am Sunday, March 8, 2026 (halls remain open; no meals provided until dinner March 8)
Closures
Closures are a complete shut down of the residence halls and require students to leave. All students are required to depart the residence halls by the designated time. For safety reasons, students may not remain in the residence halls during closures unless they have a qualified university- related reason and receive approval. Approved students will be charged for housing during this time. During closures, services on campus are limited, including occasional facility service interruptions, and dining is unavailable. For the 2025-2026 school year, the scheduled closures are:
- Winter Closure: Saturday, December 13, 2025 at noon-9 a.m. Sunday, January 4, 2026 (meal service starts at dinner)
- End of Year Closing: Saturday, April 25, 2026 at noon
Academic Recess
Throughout the year, the academic calendar includes short recesses (such as single days or long weekends) when classes are not in session. Residence hall services continue as normal during these times, unless otherwise noted.
Start Planning Your Housing Needs Now!
We strongly encourage students to plan travel and housing arrangements early so they have the support they need when residence hall services are unavailable.
