2024-2025 housing rates can be found on our Housing Rates webpage.
We are delighted to invite our students to join our residential Husky community for
the 2024-25 academic year!
Contract Renewal for 2024-2025 housing will work like this:
- The contract goes live January 29 for current first-year students and February 6 for
current second year and above.
- ALL students who have active residence hall contracts are invited to participate in
the housing contract renewal process. Students who wish to live on campus next year
will need to participate in Contract Renewal in order to secure on-campus housing.
- There is no credit hour limit that will restrict renewing your contract for housing.
- Phase One of the Contract Renewal process will close on February 23 or once we have
reached capacity, whichever comes first. Only students who complete a contract during
Phase One will be able to participate in the roommate and room selection phases.
- Please read the complete timeline below for more information regarding each phase
of the process.
Remember, a University housing contract binds you to living on campus next year. If
you are receiving support through loans, grants, scholarships, parental support or
other means, please discuss your housing plans with the appropriate people before
you sign this University housing contract or any legally binding housing contract.
Phase One: Signing the Contract
We have reached our anticipated capacity for the 2024-2025 academic year and have
closed the Contract Renewal phase at this time.
During Phase One, guaranteeing your campus housing requires these quick two steps:
- Log into your HuskyHouse account
- Sign the Housing contract
At this point, your housing is secured on campus for next year.
Current first-year students will have a one-week priority window starting on January
29, 2024. While current first-year students will be able to participate one week sooner
than second year and above, they are not guaranteed housing! Starting on February
6, the Contract Renewal process will open to ALL students with active residence hall
contracts.
Remember, this phase will close on February 23, or when we reach capacity, whichever
happens first.
Phase Two: Roommate Matching (January 29-February 23)
During the contract committment process, students can select a roommate(s) or search
for potential roommates starting on January 29 through February 23 once they have
signed their contract. Students must be part of a roommate group in order to participate
in room selection. Roommate groups must match a room’s occupancy to be selected.
Students who do not join a roommate group or cannot fill a room completely will be
assigned with another student(s) who did not select a roommate. Roommates are limited
to students who have a housing contract for 2024-2025. One student cannot be pulled
into the process by another.
NOTE: ALL students should complete a roommate profile. This will help students identify
a roommate(s). It will also help with placement in the event that you lose a roommate
to co-op, transfer, etc.
Phase Three: Room Selection (February 27-March 17)
Those who participated in the Roommate Matching phase are able to participate in the
Room Selection phase. The room selection period opens on February 27-March 17 and
is reserved for roommate groups ONLY. Roommate groups can select a room that matches
their group configuration (size/gender preferences) during this time.
Groups must fill the full capacity of a room in order to select it. Unmatched students, partial groups, and roommate groups that do not select a room
will not receive an assignment until the auto-assign phase.
In order to select a room within a specialized or learning community during Room Selection,
all members of a roommate group must note their preference within their Roommate Profile.
Room Selection Priority
Students will be able to begin selecting a room through a tiered process based on
the average number of credit hours of their roommate group as of the end of the Fall
2023 semester. Room Selection priority groups are as follows:
- 90+ credits: February 27 at 9 am
- 60-89 credits: February 28 at 9 am
- 30-59 credits: February 29 at 9 am
- 0-29 credits: March 01 at 9 am
Phase Four: Auto-Assign Unmatched Students (July 1)
Students with an active Housing contract for 2024-25 who did not select roommates
and/or rooms during the prior phases will still be guaranteed a space in campus Housing.
All unassigned students with contracts will be placed in rooms through an auto-assign
process by July 1. We strongly encourage all students with Housing contracts to complete
their Roommate Profile to best assist us in the auto-assign process.
All students who completed a contract will receive an assignment regardless of whether
they participated in the Roommate Matching phase and will be committed to the 2024-25
housing contract.
NOTE: Student room and community preferences cannot be guaranteed
Flex Housing:
Flex Housing offers a limited term Daniell Heights apartment with a flexible agreement
and is meant to cater to students who look to transition to off campus housing within
the next academic year. Flex housing has students living in a more efficient residential
configuration in an apartment (4 students in a 2 bedroom and 2 students in a 1 bedroom)
while receiving, in turn, more flexibility in their housing and financial commitments.
Features include:
At this time, this opportunity is only available for CURRENT 2024-2025 RETURNING UNDERGRADUATE
STUDENTS and priority will be given to rising Juniors with 40-65 credits. Students
can complete the Daniell Heights Flex Housing Interest Form now.
Students with an accommodation need to live on campus:
We recognize many students have unique needs that may require them to secure campus
housing. We advise students to start talking with the necessary offices to secure
a prioritization (in previous years this was known as an exemption form) to live on
campus. We will consider priority applications from students in the situations listed
below. We will review all situations on a case-by-case basis.
- Students who have an approved medical accommodation through Student Disability Services that outlines a specific need to live on campus.
- Students who have a live-in position, such as a resident assistant or operations assistant,
where their work requires them to live on campus to provide critical services.
- Students who have a unique set of circumstances that cannot be conveniently listed
here.
Students with any of the extenuating circumstances listed above are invited to complete
the 24-25 Priority Access Housing Request form. Students who are approved for priority access will be able to renew their housing
contract starting as early as January 22. If you have an accommodation, we strongly
encourage you to begin working with Student Disabilities Services now to ensure there
are no delays to your process. It is a student’s responsibility to make sure they
complete the necessary information in a timely manner to secure housing during the
timelines provided. If capacity is reached before an accommodation is granted, students
will be able to sign up for the waitlist.
Returning Student Housing Frequently Asked Questions
When is the residence hall contract renewal process?
The process will begin January 29 for current first-year students and February 6 for
ALL current students.
How do I know if I am eligible to live off campus?
Students should refer to any scholarships that may have a residency requirement to
determine if they are eligible to live off campus. We are still committed to prioritizing
on campus housing for first- and second-year students who have a residency requirement
to live on campus.
How does the contract renewal process work?
In Husky House:
Starting January 29 (first-year students)/February 6 (all undergraduates): Sign the
contract, build a roommate profile and match with a roommate
Starting February 27: Select a room
July 1: Auto-assignment of room and roommate will be available for those who signed
a contract but did not select a room or roommate on their own
Who is eligible to apply for housing contract renewal?
All full time undergraduate students.
If I don't complete a contract, can I still sign up at a later date?
No, only students that complete a contract will be able to participate in the subsequent
room selection process. Contract Renewal opens January 29 for current first year students
and on February 6 for all undergraduate students. We will close the contract renewal
process when we have reached capacity OR on February 23, whichever comes first.
If I sign a contract, but don’t participate in roommate matching and/or room selection,
am I still contracted and guaranteed campus housing?
Yes, all students who sign a contract before the process closes will receive a roommate
and housing assignment. If you sign a contract and do not participate in roommate
matching or room selection, a room and roommate will be selected for you based on
your profile in HuskyHouse.
I haven’t decided if I want to live in on-campus housing. Should I still sign a contract?
Signing a contract enters the student into a year-long legally binding commitment
and agreement to live in on-campus housing. We recommend you only sign a contract
when you are ready to commit to residing on-campus. Students are not easily released
from housing contracts and expected to fulfill the terms of their commitment, so you
should not consider on-campus housing as a back-up plan.
Will I be able to make a change to my roommate pairing during the room selection phase?
Yes. If your roommate arrangements have changed you will be able to alter the arrangement
before you select your room.
If one of my intended roommates does not sign up for housing, can I pull them in during
the room selection phase?
No. In order for you to be paired, all intended roommates must have signed a contract
during the Contract Renewal phase.
What is the first year student “priority window”?
Current first year residential students will be given an extra week starting January
29 to renew their on campus housing contract before the renewal opens for upper division
returning students starting on February 6.
Can first year students renew their contract when upper division returning students
can renew?
Yes. First year students are invited to renew their contracts at any time the housing
contract renewal process is available, but should know that the process could close
if we reach capacity before the February 23 deadline.
Are first year students guaranteed to have housing in their second year on campus?
No. First year students are given additional opportunities with the priority window,
but have to participate in the housing contract process and successfully renew the
contract before reaching capacity.
I’m a merit scholar, am I guaranteed housing?
No. Merit scholars must follow the same steps as non-merit scholars to secure housing
and are responsible for doing what is necessary to fulfill their scholarships.
If housing reaches capacity before I renew my contract, what are my options?
Students who miss the contract renewal window will be able to sign up for a waitlist
to be considered for the next available space in campus housing. Students can also
apply for Flex housing, Daniell Heights standard apartments, and campus houses based
on eligibility and availability.
Hillside Room Selection FAQs
How do I secure a room in Hillside for next year?
Students who wish to live in Hillside must participate in the Contract Renewal process,
starting with signing a contract and then moving through Roommate Matching and Room
Selection. In order to secure a space in Hillside during Room Selection, students
will be required to fill the space. That means that for a four person space in Hillside,
students will need to be matched in a roommate group of four total students. We highly
recommend anyone who wants to secure a space in Hillside match with a group of four
during Roommate Matching.
Can I get into Hillside without matching in a group of 4 roommates?
Hillside will be filled with groups of four. Spaces in Hillside may be filled during
the summer using the waiting list depending on availability.
What if I sign a housing contract, but don’t get a space in Hillside?
Students who sign a contract hoping to secure a space in Hillside who are unable to
do so are still legally bound by their contract to live on campus. You can choose
to select a different room in the other residence halls, or one will be assigned for
you.
If I match with a group of 4 roommates but Hillside is full, how do I select a room
in one of the other residence halls?
Decline the roommate requests of the two suitemates you no longer want to live with
in HuskyHouse. Now you will be able to select a 2-person room. (all 4 students should
do this.) It will be helpful to discuss this possibility in advance as a group.
Second-Year Quick Merit Waiver Request FAQs
What is the quick merit waiver process?
The quick waiver process is a limited-time event that was held in November and part
of December that allowed students with a merit scholarship to apply for a quick waiver
of their second-year scholarship requirement to live on campus. This waiver allowed
students to immediately explore housing options in the area and maintain their scholarship.
If I applied for a quick merit waiver, was it automatically granted?
Students who were approved were notified by mid-December 2023 via their MTU email.
Every request was reviewed by staff to identify whether predetermined circumstances
exist that warranted an exception from their scholarship's requirement.
If I was granted a quick waiver from the scholarship requirement, am I still eligible
to apply for residence hall housing?
No. Those who are approved for a quick merit waiver will be removed from the room
selection process and unable to select residence hall housing. Students can request
to change their decision, but housing availability may not be able to be guaranteed.
In those cases, students would be placed on a waitlist for housing. Students need
to think carefully before applying for a quick waiver.
Flex Housing FAQs
What is Daniell Heights Flex Housing?
Flex Housing is a month-to-month flexible housing solution allowing students to reside
in more efficient apartment housing accommodations for the 2024-25 academic year while
they actively seek off-campus accommodations.
Who is eligible for this program?
All returning undergraduate students will be eligible to apply for the program; however,
we will give all rising juniors with 40-65 earned credits as of spring 2024 priority
before considering other applicants.
Why are rising juniors being given priority?
Our goal is to be proactive with all students and set them up for success. With the
recent housing demand limiting availability for seniors, we want to give rising juniors
an opportunity to have as much time as possible to explore off campus housing while
local landlords are seeking tenants for the next school year, and before their chances
are significantly limited to secure residence hall housing.
What are the benefits of participating in Flex Housing?
- Flexibility: Flex Housing provides short-term, month-to-month housing allowing students
to leave the agreement at the end of the month (with at least seven days’ notice)
with no penalty or commitment.
- Apartment-style amenities: Flex Housing includes a full kitchen, living room space,
and unit bathroom.
- Cost-friendly: Students are billed by the bed, not the apartment, resulting in consistent
monthly charges that will not increase, even if other residents in the apartment leave.
- Limited co-tenant commitment: Since you are billed by the bed, your decision to leave
Flex Housing will not impact your roommates’ ability to stay in the space.
What should I consider before participating in Flex Housing?
Students need to consider that a bedroom space in Daniell Heights will be more limited
than standard apartment configurations since four people are assigned to a two-bedroom
space and two people to a one-bedroom space. We are unable to provide additional apartment
furniture aside from beds, which means each student in Flex Housing will be sharing
a room, desk and dresser with their roommate. Flex Housing is similar to the residence
halls in that students are responsible for configuring the living space in a manner
that is ideal for all occupants. Students looking for a traditional apartment arrangement
with fewer people living in the space may want to consider a standard lease instead
of Flex Housing.
Are rising seniors eligible to live in Daniell Heights Flex Housing?
How many will live in each Flex apartment?
We will assign 2 students to a bedroom. Two students will live in a one bedroom apartment
and four students will live in a two bedroom apartment.
When does occupancy begin?
August 15, 2024. Charges will begin to accrue on this date regardless of when a student
chooses to move in. August rent will be prorated.
If one of the residents leaves, am I responsible for their portion of the rent?
No! Students are contracted by bed and only responsible for their portion of the apartment,
even if there is a vacancy. Rates will not change.
What if a vacancy occurs in the apartment?
Similar to the residence halls, MTU Housing reserves the right to reassign any student
to the space waiting for housing. Housing is willing to work with students if the
residents in the apartment have a qualified roommate in mind.
Can non-students (partner, dependent) live in Daniell Heights Flex Housing?
No. Only active MTU students can live in Daniell Heights Flex Housing. Students with
non-MTU dependents should explore our standard Daniell Heights apartment housing.
If I start Flex Housing and leave at a later time, how can I avoid penalties?
- Provide at least a 7-day notice before the end of the month you intend to leave.
- Check out of the apartment properly, removing all property and returning keys before
the end of the month.
If I don’t give 7-day notice before the end of the month, what will happen?
Students will be billed for the additional month before the agreement expires. As
an example:
If a student gives notice leaving the agreement on October 29, which is less than
7 days notice, the student will be billed through November 30.
What if I leave in the middle of a month?
You will still be responsible for the full month’s rent where you still occupied the
apartment. We will only prorate to the date if you are on an academic withdrawal
status.
How long will this Flex Housing be available to me?
The term will run August 15, 2024 through April 30, 2025. Students can request a
2 month extension through June 30, 2025 as long as they notify us by April 23.
Can I renew my agreement for Flex Housing for the next year?
No. The flex housing program is intended to provide a short term flexible solution
for students. Students wishing for a longer term solution may explore a standard
lease agreement in Daniell Heights. Students will not have recontracting rights as
other Daniell Heights standard leases.
What comes in the apartment?
We strongly encourage students to visit our Daniell Heights information website. The bedrooms will be refurnished with XL twin beds that are bunked; however, the
rest of the furniture listed on our website will remain. Requests for additional furniture
will not be able to be accommodated. All utilities are already included in costs,
making the costs budget-friendly
Will additional furniture not seen on the website be added?
No. Students are welcome to add their own furniture pieces but need to talk to each
other about what to bring.
How will you decide who will get an offer if Flex housing becomes available?
To maximize housing availability on campus, priority will be given to rising juniors
with 40-65 credit hours. Otherwise, applications will be processed in the order they
are received.
Is it possible I might be asked to consolidate?
We will avoid consolidating to the best of our ability, however if a significant number
of beds become available in Flex Housing, just like the residence halls, we may ask
students to consolidate.
Can a previous Flex housing student apply to return to the program?
No. The terms of Flex housing is that it is a one year, non-renewable opportunity
for students who participate.
