We’re excited to welcome our newest Huskies to campus during Move-In on August 24 and 25–your official start to life at Michigan Tech! These dates are reserved for students arriving at Michigan Tech for the first time.
Preparing for Move-In can bring a mix of excitement and nerves, and that’s completely normal. As you get ready, we encourage you to connect with your roommate and begin coordinating what you’ll each bring. A little planning now can make Move-In day feel smoother and more comfortable.
The information below will help you understand what to expect so you can arrive feeling prepared, confident, and ready to jump in. We’re excited for you to begin this experience—one where you’ll build community, navigate new challenges, and grow along the way. We can’t wait for you to be here.

Assigned Move In Times
Move-In is one of the most exciting and busiest times on campus. To keep things running smoothly, each student is assigned a specific Move-In time, which will be available with room assignments in the HuskyHouse portal, beginning in July.
Arriving during your assigned time helps reduce congestion, keeps traffic moving, shortens wait times, and ensures you have the support you need when you arrive. This system has made a big difference in creating a smoother, more welcoming experience for students and families, and we appreciate your help in making Move-In day successful for everyone.
New Student Check-In
Your Move-In experience begins at the Van Pelt and Opie Library at your assigned time. During check-in, you will receive:
- Your room key
- A Move-In map
- A temporary parking permit (located on the back of the Move-In map)
- A welcome packet
If you’re arriving with multiple vehicles, all vehicles should check in at the library before heading to your residence hall. Vehicles arriving to the residence halls without a permit will be redirected to complete check-in at the library.

Once you’ve checked in at the library, follow the route outlined on your Move-In map to your assigned residence hall. Please note that traffic patterns during Move-In will differ from typical campus routes.
When you arrive at your hall, staff and volunteers will be ready to help you unload and get your belongings to your room so you can focus on getting settled. Before heading inside, complete your temporary unloading permit and place it on your dashboard with the following information:
- Name
- Phone number
- Room number
- Time of arrival
Parking During Move-In
While assigned Move-In times help manage traffic flow, you may be directed to a temporary overflow parking area before proceeding to your residence hall. We appreciate your patience as we work to support all arriving students and keep things moving as efficiently as possible.
