Biography
Dr. Rundus is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Human Factors at Michigan Technological University. He began his higher education at Eastern Michigan University, earning a double major in Psychology and Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Iowa. His doctoral research focused on leveraging regenerative braking for crash avoidance.
After graduation, he joined Gulfstream Aerospace as a human factors engineer, where he conducted human factors research and evaluated human performance and safety in aviation systems. He later returned to academia to complete a postdoctoral fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where his research focused on driving safety among vulnerable populations, including adolescent drivers following concussion and older drivers experiencing age-related vision changes.
His research applies human factors and cognitive engineering principles to improve transportation safety, with particular interests in driver behavior and decision making, vulnerable road users, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and human interaction with automated and autonomous vehicle technologies.
