In a season known for its uncertainty, Michigan Technological University's tenacious Huskies show up prepared.
Winter in the Keweenaw has a way of shaping its inhabitants. It teaches them to prepare, adapt and keep moving when the wind picks up.
That same spirit will be on full display as 150 employers arrive on campus for Michigan Tech's Spring 2026 Career Fair, held from noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Student Development Complex.
This year's fair comes at a moment when many industries are navigating shifting economic conditions. But for Huskies — who balance rigorous academics with the realities of living in one of the snowiest regions in the country — readiness isn't a new concept. It's a way of life.
"Michigan Tech students don't wait for perfect conditions," said Cody Kangas, executive director of Career Services at MTU. "They show up prepared, they pivot when necessary, and they bring a level of resilience that employers notice immediately."
Spring Career Fair is one of several major recruiting events the University hosts annually. Leading up to the fair, campus transforms into a hub of informal networking: students meeting recruiters over coffee, alumni offering quick resume critiques, and industry partners sharing insights about emerging opportunities. These candid conversations help students chart their next steps with confidence.
"Alumni love coming back to help," said Jim Desrochers, director of employer relations. "They remember what it felt like to be in these students' shoes, and they're eager to share what they've learned. That generosity strengthens our entire career ecosystem."
Ahead of the fair, Career Services encourages students to update their profiles on LinkedIn and Handshake, where employers post open roles. Advising appointments, mock interviews and resume support are available throughout the year to help students refine their materials and practice their pitch. As the week unfolds, the energy on campus builds to the main event, followed by Interview Day, where many students take their next step toward internships, co‑ops and full‑time roles.
