FIRST Scholarship

Michigan Technological University is pleased to recognize exceptional students who have actively competed on a FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Tech Challenge team during their high school career. Students involved in VEX Robotics are also eligible to apply.

Award Value

Twenty-five new incoming first-year undergraduate students will be awarded scholarships valued at $16,000 ($4,000/year). Additionally, fifteen new incoming first-year undergraduate students will be awarded scholarships valued at $6,000 ($1,500/year). The scholarship is renewable for four years (eight semesters total) of full-time undergraduate study based upon meeting renewal criteria.

Who should Apply

Current high school seniors pursuing any major at Michigan Tech who have actively competed on a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team, FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team, or VEX Robotics team during their high school career are invited to apply.

How to Apply

Complete the Michigan Tech Scholarship Application by February 1.
FIRST Scholarship applicants must apply for admission to Michigan Tech by February 1. All supporting materials, such as official transcripts, must be submitted by February 1.

Application Deadline and Other Important Information

February 1: Michigan Tech Scholarship Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. (Eastern). You must also have an application for admission on file by this date.
March: Award recipients and applicants are notified. Students not selected will be notified on the Application Portal.

Renewal Criteria

Scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 at the end of each spring semester. Continuous, regular full-time undergraduate enrollment (12 credits or more) and adherence to the student code of community conduct must also be maintained.
