Fieldwork is a necessary part of some research at Michigan Technological University. This guide is intended to help you plan and prepare for health and safety problems you might encounter while conducting fieldwork in North America.
A completed Field Research Safety Plan form should be shared with all the members of the field research team and kept on file with the Principal Investigator. Multiple trips to the same location can be covered by a single Safety Plan. The Safety Plan should be revised whenever a significant change to the location or scope of field work occurs.
The safety of our students and employees is a priority for the University and, therefore, it is important to report injuries and property damage incidents so that appropriate corrective actions can be taken to prevent future incidents and improve our safety program. Employee injury reports are also necessary to manage billing for medical care and to comply with OSHA reporting requirements.
