However, Supervisors are ultimately responsible for ensuring employees have received appropriate training.
Safety Skills
Michigan Tech uses HSI/Safety Skills system to offer variety of modules covering various
training needs. The system is designed for general industry and covers only generic requirements.
You can browse the wide variety of available trainings from Safety Skills Catalog.
Supervisors are responsible to provide site specific/job specific trainings that is not offered by HSI/Safety Skills.

If you would like to provide the training via Canvas platform for your group, contact
EHS for the procedure.
For Safety Skills inquiries, submit the ticket via EHS portal.
Equipment handling and operation
EHS will coordinate equipment operation training.
Submit the ticket via EHS portal for the following trainings;
- Fire Extinguisher hands-on (simulator)
- Operator trainings for PIT:Powered industry trucks (i.e. Forklifts)
- Operator trainings for MEWP:Mobile elevated working platforms (i.e. scissor lifts, boom lifts)
- Operator trainings for overhead cranes
