Biography
Dr. James Bittner is an Assistant Teaching Professor within the Engineering Fundamentals Department at Michigan Technological University. His current pedagogical focus encompasses foundational engineering curricula, including first-year project design and computational problem-solving, where he emphasizes the integration of active learning pedagogies. Dr. Bittner's research interests are multifaceted, spanning the investigation of novel active learning strategies in engineering education, the advancement of nondestructive evaluation techniques for civil infrastructure, and the theoretical analysis of nonlinear wave phenomena. Leveraging his prior professional experience as an engineer in the maritime construction sector, with a specialization in hydraulic sediment transport and geotechnical analysis, Dr. Bittner integrates practical, real-world perspectives into both his teaching and scholarly pursuits.
