Faculty Awards and Recognition

Michigan Tech recognizes excellence in teaching through several awards managed by the CFE. For information on selection criteria and past awardees, see the list below. 

Additional faculty honors and awards, such as distinguished professorships and internal research awards are overseen by the provost's office and Vice President for Research. The University Senate additionally oversees the MTU Faculty Distinguished Service Award.

The Michigan Tech Distinguished Teaching Award has been presented annually since 1952. Eligible faculty are ranked by their cumulative average of the 7-Dimensions on the student course surveys for the given year.

The Michigan Tech Academy of Teaching Excellence was established in 1998 to recognize those who have demonstrated continued dedication to and support of the University's teaching mission.

This CTL Instructional Award Series was developed to recognize instructors who were trying something really new, teachers in large classes, and those doing behind-the-scenes work of curriculum innovation and assessment; activities not typically reflected by student evaluations.

Each spring semester, the deans nominate outstanding instructors within their units and thirteen nominees are announced across the semester. Deans' Teaching Showcase winners are considered for the university-wide CTL Instructional Awards in targeted areas and are asked to give a presentation the following fall semester.

The Provost's Award for Sustained Teaching Excellence was developed to provide special recognition to instructors who have been nominated as finalists for the Distinguished Teaching Award four or more times to recognize faculty consistently delivering exceptional instruction to their students over many years.
