Events and Workshops

The Center for Faculty Excellence holds events and workshops to support Michigan Tech in the continuous improvement of teaching and learning at all instructional levels.

Luncheon and Coffee Chat Events

During the fall and spring semesters, the CFE invites instructors to luncheon and coffee chat events. Lunch and Learn events feature presentations from CFE and other campus experts. Coffee chats provide instructors (faculty, postdocs, TAs, etc.) and staff with opportunities to discuss contemporary issues of interest. These events provide an opportunity to network with faculty from other departments, learn new instructional strategies and tools, and become aware of instructional policy changes. Please contact us with ideas and suggestions for future events.

Workshops

Technical workshops

The CFE offers workshops on leveraging technology for learner-centered instruction. Workshops often focus on the use of the Canvas learning management system, the Huskycast-Panopto video platform, iClicker student response software, and other EdTech tools that support instruction. Technical workshops are typically 45-minute sessions with time afterwards for questions.

Pedagogical workshops

Throughout the academic year, the CFE offers pedagogical workshops and/or events that inform faculty on emerging best practices in the classroom along with building an awareness about how students learn. The pedagogical focus encompasses approaches and methods that create active and engaging courses that foster student learning.
