Instructional Resources

The Center for Faculty Excellence provides instructors with resources to help design, deliver, and refine high-quality learning experiences. Whether you are learning about Canvas, building a new course, developing a syllabus, planning active learning activities, improving the accessibility of course materials, or exploring instructional technologies, these resources provide practical guidance grounded in effective teaching practice.

Canvas Resources

Michigan Tech uses Canvas as its learning management system (LMS). Our Canvas page provides links to instructor guides, information on common tools used with Canvas (e.g., Zoom, iClicker), and details on how to submit grades.

Active Learning Resources

See our list of available Active Learning Classrooms and Glossary of Active Learning Teaching Strategies. The CFE staff are available to help faculty implement any of these strategies in their classrooms.

Classroom Polling

Faculty can use iClicker Cloud to live-poll their students during class. This can be an effective way to gauge comprehension of course content and engage students. This page describes how to get started using iClicker Cloud for student polling.

HuskyFolio and Folio Thinking

The HuskyFolio page describes the concept of "Folio Thinking" and why it is being used in the Essential Education curriculum. Also describes different types of folios which can be created to support learning objectives in diverse courses.
