Biography

Dr. Sadeghi earned his PhD in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical Engineering focus in 2019. Before Joining the Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering Department at Michigan Technological University, he served as an assistant professor at Montana Technological university for three years. During his time at Montana Tech, he was able to support his research through external funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Montana Department of Transportation (MtDOT), and other industry collaborators. Dr. Sadeghi also has more than 5 years of work experience in the construction and mining industries. Dr. Sadeghi's teaching interests include soil mechanics and foundation design, biogeotechnics, applied machine learning, and mechanics of material. Dr. Sadeghi has an active research program in the area of geotechnical engineering focusing on Bio-Inspired/Bio-mediated ground improvement methods and foundation designs. His research team's second focus area is applying artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and data driven models to geotechnical problems. Other research areas of his research group include reducing the carbon footprint of the civil and mining industries, geomaterial behavior and testing, site investigation methods, especially Measurement While Drilling (MWD) in geotechnical engineering, slope stability and debris flow hazards, stability of underground structures, and finally Mine tailings and abandoned mines related geohazards and remediation.
