Rates and Paying Rent

Michigan Tech Housing offers quality, convenient student apartments at rates competitive with the Houghton community. Rent is charged per apartment, not per person, and begins on the first day of your contract. Payments are due and posted to your student account on the first of each month via your Experience portal. Be sure to pay on time, as a late charge will be assessed after the
due date.

To pay your rent, log into your Expereince portal or select the "Pay Rent" portal button in the right sidebar.

How to Pay an
Apartment Deposit

To pay the deposit, please follow the instructions below.

Step 1.

When you log in to Experience, look for and click on the tab labeled
"Billing & Payments."

Step 2.

Then select "Payments Page - Student Bill/Confirm Enrollment."

Step 3.

On the Payments page, locate the tab (like the ones in the image below) for "Pay Apartment Deposit." Click on this tab to proceed with your payment. If for any reason you do not see this tab, please reach out to Student Financial Services directly at 906-487-2622 or at student-billing@mtu.edu as they can assist you further with billing inquiries.

Daniell Heights Apartments Monthly Rates

Rates are effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, or August 15, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

Rent is due the first day of each month. Rental rates are per apartment, not per person.

Rental rates include utilities: electricity, water, sewer, trash removal, internet, and cable television service.

Seniors and Graduate Students 2BR Apartment	$1,290/month

Limited housing is available for visiting scholars, post-docs, faculty, and staff.

Depending on availability, new faculty and staff, visiting scholars, and post-docs may apply to live in Daniell Heights. Daniell Heights apartments are semi-furnished. For 2026-27, the cost to live in Daniell Heights for new faculty and staff, visiting scholars, and post-docs is:

Non-Student Apartments: Faculty or Staff, Visiting Scholars, and Post-Doctoral	Charge

Faculty/Staff 2BR Apartment	$1,455/month
Faculty/Staff 3BR Apartment	$1,670/month

*Faculty and staff are permitted to stay for one temporary contract pending availability. Temporary contracts are not renewable and are
not transferable.

Online Payments

Daniell Heights residents may make online payments through their Experience portal.

The University accepts electronic checks and debit and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express) for online payments of bills. Please note that when paying via credit card, a 2.3 percent nonrefundable surcharge will be assessed to these payments. Electronic checks are not assessed a fee by the University.

Rates are reviewed each year and increases are announced in late spring with an effective date of July 1 for Daniell Heights. Residents will be provided with the new rates once they are approved.

Additional Information

Fees

A late fee of $50 will be assessed to any balance remaining on a resident's account as of the close of business day on the tenth day of the month, or the next business day if the tenth falls on a holiday or weekend.

There is a 2.3 percent nonrefundable surcharge assessed to credit card payments. There is no fee charged for payment by
electronic check.
