Create. Educate. Lead.
Residence Education Coordinators (RECs) at Michigan Tech do more than manage buildings—they build communities where students thrive. In this role, you'll transform residence halls into dynamic learning environments that prepare students for success in our global society.
Your Impact
- Design learning frameworks that extend education beyond the classroom
- Mentor and develop student staff who directly support our Husky community
- Collaborate across departments to enhance student experiences
- Lead special projects that address real student needs
- Guide students through challenges and celebrate their achievements
As one of eight Residence Education Coordinators on campus, you'll join a team of professionals committed to student success. We're looking for educators who bring their authentic selves to work, embrace our challenging northern environment, and are ready to roll up their sleeves to support our community.
At Michigan Tech, your professional growth matters. Through committee work, mentorship, and development opportunities, you'll build the skills needed to advance your career in higher education while making a meaningful difference in students' lives.
Why did you become a residence education coordinator?I became an REC to help students celebrate their successes and have someone to help them when they're struggling. The Copper Country helped me discover what means the most to me, and I love being able to do the same for others.
When you join our Michigan Tech community, you become part of our unique campus traditions like Keweenaw Day, cardboard boat races, Broomball, and Winter Carnival.

What is a typical day like for you as a residence education coordinator? On a typical day I meet with resident assistants and residents alike, help students figure out their plans to address academic struggles, and advise student organizations to plan amazing events. There are so many different aspects of campus to be involved in—every day looks a little different as an REC.
Residence Education Coordinators develop personal, meaningful relationships while supervising their resident assistants and advising student organizations. This is achieved through developing training programs, leading weekly staff meetings, joining Broomball teams, and supporting student events.
Residence Education Coordinators stay connected in the midwest with regional committee work. Professional staff members are also encouraged to participate in other development opportunities such as:
- Mental Health First Aid
- Search Committee Training
- Attending conferences
