Welcome, Students and Alumni of Lake Superior State University!

Whether you’re looking to deepen your expertise, expand into a new field, or strengthen your long-term career trajectory, graduate school can be a powerful next step. Michigan Technological University and Lake Superior State University are partnering to help make that next step more affordable and more attainable.

Together, we are offering a Graduate Education Fellowship Program aligned with LSSU’s mission to equip graduates with "the knowledge, practical skills, and inner strength to craft a life of meaningful employment, personal fulfillment, and generosity of self within an inclusive atmosphere, all while enhancing the quality of life of the Great Lakes region and the world." This fellowship extends that mission by creating a clearer pathway from an LSSU degree to graduate study at Michigan Tech.

Through this collaboration, a limited number of graduate education fellowships will be available to qualified LSSU graduates, making Michigan Tech graduate certificates and degrees—online or on campus—within easier reach. You can study in Houghton for a focused, immersive campus experience; or pursue an online program while continuing to work and apply what you learn in real time. Whatever path you choose, you’ll gain confidence, capability, and a respected graduate credential from a leading R1 STEM school.

This partnership is also grounded in shared priorities: student opportunity, practical impact, and regional leadership. LSSU’s mission-centered focus on applied skills and inclusive growth pairs naturally with graduate programs at Michigan Tech, which combine advanced theory with hands-on problem solving across engineering, computing, environmental systems, business, and public-sector fields.

In short, recipients can use this graduate fellowship opportunity to

  • pursue a graduate credential and deepen their expertise through advanced study
  • invest in their long-term professional development and educational growth
  • open new paths toward leadership opportunities, increased responsibilities, and career mobility
"Michigan Tech is a globally recognized technological university that educates students, advances knowledge, and innovates to improve the quality of life and to promote mutual respect for all people within the state, the nation, and the global community."Vision and Mission, Michigan Tech Strategic Plan
