Limited Exception Grad PLUS Loan

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act allows some students to continue borrowing from the Graduate PLUS program under a limited exception. More details about this limited exception for Graduate PLUS loans are available below:

How may grad students qualify for the limited exception?

They must remain continuously enrolled in the same program of study at the same institution as they were enrolled as of June 30, 2026

AND

They have had a Direct Loan disbursed (Direct Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS) for that same program before July 1, 2026

How long is the limited exception available?

This limited exception is available until whichever one of these events occurs sooner:

The completion of the current program of study
The student withdraws or ceases enrollment
The end of the 2028-29 Academic Year
