Campus Planning

Facilities Management Planning & Construction handles the many aspects of campus planning including capital planning, campus master planning, and hazard mitigation planning.

Capital Planning involves connecting the users of a physical space with the people who manage and maintain it, as well as with the architects and designers who construct it. A building is simply a building—facility campus planning ensures that MTU's  buildings and facilities are used in a way that benefits its users and achieves its full potential.  Our engineers navigate the process for construction of all new and renovation projects on campus.  Complete a Project Request to get the process started.

Master Planning deals with the entire physical campus, not just individual buildings or spaces. It looks at how successfully the physical space of the campus supports the University's goals, mission and obligations into the future.

Hazard Mitigation Planning allows the campus to better identify risk and vulnerabilities associated with natural, technological, and human-related hazards.  By identifying these risks, long-tern strategies can be developed to reduce the loss of life and property by minimizing the impact of disasters.
