Support for Dining Services provided by the department can include a wide variety of services. Maintenance and Trades personnel routinely assist dining operations across campus with the installation, repairs, and optimization of equipment and related infrastructure, including but not limited to refrigeration, ventilation, and water and electrical services.
The department can also assist with coordinating services from outside vendors needed to address issues with specialized equipment located in kitchens, serving areas, and dining rooms. Typical services provided by the department include, but are not limited to the following:
- Dishwashers and chemical dispensers
- Appliances and kitchen equipment
- Hoods and exhaust fans
- Refrigerators and freezers
- HVAC and lighting systems
- Domestic cold/hot water systems
- Gas and electrical service
Dining staff are responsible for the regular inspection, daily cleaning and upkeep of food services areas. Staff performing work in these areas should report equipment and infrastructure issues to their supervisor. Dining operations, particularly in residence halls, are considered critical services and maintenance staff will respond accordingly. Maintenance staff will provide an initial response and perform repairs to the extent practicable, but the work may have to be referred to a specialty vendor.
If you need assistance with non-critical services, please submit a work request. Work requests will typically be reviewed by department staff within 24 hours. With the exception of safety and security concerns, work orders are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Typical hours of operation for maintenance staff are from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Emergencies such as flooding, high/low equipment temperatures, or drain blockages please contact the Facilities’ emergency line ([906] 487-0001) so that a response can be expedited.
Proposals and requests for new installations or infrastructure improvements should follow the University’s Capital Project Planning Process, including a review by staff in Engineering Services, please provide a minimum of 3-4 weeks advance notice to ensure that resources can be allocated to support the proposed improvements.
