Welcome from the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management

As the Associate Vice President for Facilities, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all members of our vibrant community and visitors alike. As Michigan’s flagship technological university, we pride ourselves on providing a campus environment that fosters innovation, collaboration, and excellence in both learning and research.

Our Facilities team is dedicated to maintaining a campus that is safe, sustainable, and conducive to academic and personal growth. From state-of-the-art research facilities to comfortable residence halls, we strive to create spaces that inspire creativity and discovery.  The Campus Master Plan has developed a roadmap for the future of Michigan Tech including a renewed investment in classrooms and teaching labs.  We recognize the critical role that these spaces play in facilitating learning and collaboration, and we are committed to ensuring that they are modern, functional, and conducive to academic success. Through strategic renovations and upgrades, we aim to create dynamic learning environments that inspire creativity and innovation.

Whether you're stepping into one of our newly renovated classrooms or exploring our state-of-the-art research facilities, we invite you to experience the transformation happening at Michigan Tech firsthand. Together, we are shaping the future of education and research, and we are excited to have you join us on this journey.

Facilities Management at Michigan Tech is organized into four primary units:  Planning and Construction, Energy Management, Operations, and Financial & Administrative Support Services.

Planning and Construction provides high-quality master planning, designing, and construction services -- managing campus infrastructure projects from the early planning phases to bidding and contract appropriation through construction and project closeout.

Energy Management procures and delivers power, heat, cooling, water and sewer services to campus.  They maintain the utility systems and ensure reliability, monitor and control utility delivery to maximize energy savings and to provide comfortable work spaces for faculty and students, and track and manage the utility costs, budgets and future trends to allow Michigan Tech to forecast expenses and plan for upgrades.

Operations serves students, faculty and staff by maintaining an efficient environment conducive to learning. Custodial Services, Maintenance Services, and Grounds and Landscaping Services are all dedicated to keeping the physical structures and grounds of the University well-maintained and attractive, with the goal to provide each student, faculty and staff member a safe, pleasant, and functional environment.

Financial and Administrative Support Services unit provides business support to the Facilities Management department, including Financial Services, Administrative Support, Facilities Purchasing, and Central Receiving.

Thank you for choosing Michigan Technological University. We certainly look forward to providing you with effective service  to support your success and make your time here memorable.

Sincerely,

Gregg Richards
