Work-Study Program

The Federal work-study program is a source of financial aid that is awarded by the Financial Aid Office and is based upon unmet financial need and availability of funding.

If you have work-study listed as part of your financial aid package, you are eligible to participate in the Michigan Tech work-study program and can apply for all work-study positions through Handshake. These part-time, on-campus jobs are available in numerous departments across campus.

If you have not been awarded work-study, because you may be ineligible or funding has been exhausted, you are encouraged to seek alternative on-campus or community employment.

Eligibility

The Federal work-study program is a source of financial aid that is awarded by the Financial Aid Office and is based upon unmet financial need and availability of funding. Your eligibility is determined by your FAFSA evaluation by the Federal Student Aid office of the U.S. Department of Education. If it is determined that you have unmet need (Cost of Attendance - COA minus the Expected Family Contribution - EFC), you may be awarded work-study eligibility. If you have work-study listed as part of your financial aid package, you are eligible to participate in the Michigan Tech work-study program and can apply for all work-study positions through Handshake. These part-time, on-campus jobs are available in numerous departments across campus.

Working Hours Allowed

All undergraduate work-study students have been authorized to work up to eight hours per week for 14 weeks each semester, or a total of 112 hours.

Award / Earned Pay

You will earn your work-study financial aid award in the form of a bi-weekly pay check for hours worked. You may spend the money to help with any expenses.

Please note that your work-study award is not automatic. You must apply for and be hired for on-campus work-study positions.
