What is a Content Management System (CMS)?

A Content Management System (CMS) is a tool used to manage content across a website. The web team is in the process of transitioning select websites, including all academic and administrative sites, to the University’s CMS. A common CMS framework allows Michigan Tech departments and units to quickly and easily update their sites, share content, and follow University Identity Standards—allowing for a more effective and unified web presence.

Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the science of creating web pages that rank highly in browser search returns and improving or maintaining the rankings of existing web pages. The web team has the experience to help you optimize your website for search engines.

Web Marketing, Analytics, and Social Media

The web team’s services extend far beyond the Content Management System (CMS) and standard website creation. Web marketing and analytics allows you to make informed decisions about and drive traffic to your web pages. We track and monitor analytics and offer expertise in social media, web marketing, and online advertisement. We also provide blogs, banners and skins, and vanity URLs.

User Interface Design

If content is king, then usability is queen. Michigan Tech's website has been redesigned to address navigation confusion, inconsistent user functionality, and a lack of dynamic content. We continue to perform user tests, accept feedback, and adapt in order to remain ahead of industry trends. Our goal is to create a site that is both intuitively usable and visually consistent.

Specialty Site Projects

We specialize in creating sites that tie into the University’s strategic initiatives. Through dynamic written content and design, our sites are created to be unique and integrated experiences for the user.
