One hundred years of Husky tradition, 200 inches of Keweenaw snowfall and one night to put on the finishing touches paid off in victory for the repeat champions.
The Hancock-based Greek organization Phi Kappa Tau extended its winning streak in the Michigan Technological University Winter Carnival overall monthlong statue competition to four years in a row. Their entry “100 Years They Come and Go, But Still We Say LET IT SNOW!” is in keeping with the event theme: “Come One, Come All To Our 100th Carnival.” In second place overall is Tau Kappa Epsilon’s “Carnival Fun Galore, a Tech Tradition We Adore.” Alpha Sigma Tau’s “Come One, Come All!” placed third.
Statue competitions are divided into monthlong and one-night, or All-Nighter, categories. Within each category there are three divisions: co-ed, women’s and men’s. In both monthlong and All-Nighter competition, the overall statue winner is determined by the top scores in each of the three divisions.
Monthlong Snow Statue Division Results
Of the 12 overall monthlong statue entries, Phi Kappa Tau and Tau Kappa Epsilon also placed first and second respectively in the men’s division, while sole women’s division competitor Alpha Sigma Tau placed first. In the co-ed entries, Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Tau Gamma placed first with “Statues Through the Years Building on Our Peers: A Feature of Older vs. Newer Statues.” Delta Zeta and Sigma Phi Epsilon took second place with “The Circus is Coming to Town!” and the Beephers (Delta Phi Epsilon and Beta Sigma Theta) placed third for their “Cheers with our Beers to 100 years!” entry.
All-Nighter Overall Snow Statue Results
St. Albert the Great University Parish Campus Catholic Ministries, a frequent All-Nighter winner, came back to claim the top spot in the overall one-night building competition. The MTU Aquarium Society took second place and Climate Action Triad placed third.
All-Nighter Snow Statue Division Results
Of the 44 total All-Nighter entries, St. Al’s also earned the top spot in the co-ed division, followed by the Aquarium Society and Climate Action Triad. In the women’s division, the Society of Women Engineers placed first and the West End Warriors won second place. Men’s division winners were led by Sigma Rho in first, Bastille Hall of East McNair in second, and Troy of Wadsworth Hall in third.
