Mission: Success! Phi Kappa Tau's interstellar journey landed the fraternity its second consecutive win in Michigan Tech's 2026 Winter Carnival overall month-long statue competition.
The winning statue, titled “Keweenaw in Another Universe,” propelled Phi Kappa Tau into first place overall, according to Michigan Tech’s chapter of Blue Key National Honor Society. The Winter Carnival organizers announced the 2026 snow statue winners in the afternoon on Thursday, Feb. 5. Teams in month-long and one-night categories created statues based on this year’s Carnival theme: “Through Ice and Snow, to Space We Go.”
Tau Kappa Epsilon secured second place overall with their month-long entry “Zathura,” while Delta Zeta and Delta Sigma Phi earned third place with “Futurama.”
Ice Mass is a Go
In addition to sculpting their All-Night competition winner, the community of St. Albert the Great University Parish Campus Catholic Ministries has also been hard at work creating the space for its annual Winter Carnival Ice Masses, held in the Ice Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows. This year's Ice Masses will be held on Feb. 6 and 7. All are welcome. Stay tuned to the St. Al's Facebook page for regular updates and livestreaming details.
Month-long Snow Statue Division Results
Of the 11 overall month-long statue entries, Phi Kappa Tau and Tau Kappa Epsilon placed first and second, respectively, in the men’s division, and Lambda Chi Alpha captured third with their entry “Hoth – The Ice World from Star Wars.” In the women’s division, Alpha Sigma Tau took first place with “Aliens Around the World.”
In the co-ed month-long division, Delta Zeta and Delta Sigma Phi took the top spot with their entry “Futurama.” Sigma Tau Gamma and Alpha Gamma Delta earned second place with “Spaceballs Parody.” Beta Sigma Theta and Delta Phi Epsilon captured third with “Lots of Aliens.”
All-Nighter Overall Snow Statue Results
Catholic Campus Ministries at St. Albert the Great University Parish earned first overall in the one-night building competition with their entry “Faith in Space.”

Of the 72 total one-night entries, Catholic Campus Ministries at St. Albert the Great earned the top spot in the co-ed division, with The Navigators and SAF Forestry Club in second and third, respectively.
In the women’s division, the Women's Rugby Club placed first, Mind Trekkers placed second, and Society of Women Engineers placed third.
In the men’s All-Nighter division, Dungeons and Dragons placed first, followed by Blizzard Baja Enterprise in second place and Tombstone in third.
