Forbes.com, a financial news website, ranks Michigan Technological University 12th in the nation for public universities whose graduates earn the highest mid-career salaries.
Michigan Tech grads’ mid-career earnings average $102,000, according to Forbes.
“This is an honor, but no surprise,” said Michigan Tech President Glenn Mroz. “With our focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), our hands-on education, students’ enthusiastic participation in programs like Enterprise, Senior Design and the Advanced Portfolio Management Program, and an average starting salary of $63,400, it is no wonder our graduates’ mid-career earnings top $100,000.”
Michigan Tech ranked highest among Michigan’s public universities. It also ranked higher than several of its peer institutions around the country. Military, maritime and merchant marine academies took the top five rankings.
“Smart college consumers realize that a variety of public colleges can rival their exclusive counterparts -- often at a much lower price,” says the Forbes website. “If you’re aiming for a lucrative career that begins with an affordable education, these schools are a great place to start.”
Technology and engineering majors lead the ranks of careers that are both smart and affordable, according to the Forbes report. Others, like military academies, offer low-cost or free tuition for students but also come with a service requirement.
