    MAE Welcomes First Class of Aerospace Engineering Students

    Michigan Tech's 2025-26 academic year is bringing long-awaited, impactful changes to the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. As MAE's inaugural class of first-year aerospace engineering majors begin their studies, the department remains committed to the same overall principles that have produced quality Michigan Tech engineering graduates for generations: a hands-on, practical education that produces productive engineers for the aerospace workforce, academia, and beyond.

On the cover: Look Up: the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering takes to the skies with a fleet of customized drones for research in atmospheric sciences, aeronautics, and acoustics, including the Mavic 3, an Albatross UAV (nicknamed Ukko for a Finnish weather deity), and the DJI Mini 3.
