Windows and doors are integral to the comfort and security of building occupants. Open doors and windows can assist with air movement and improve comfort in classrooms, offices, and public spaces.
Windows shouldn’t be left open or unattended, especially during the winter months. Open windows have the potential to allow pests to enter the building and have resulted in frozen water pipes. Window related issues should be reported to Facilities Management. If you’re unable to close a window or you notice a window open during the winter months, please call Facilities Management at (906) 487-2303. Typical hours of operation for Facilities Management staff is 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Facilities Management manages window washing services on campus. Most first and second floor windows are cleaned by building staff in the late summer. Services are contracted for the high rise buildings and upper floors which have been on a rotating schedule spanning several years. Contracted window washing services are contingent upon contractor and funding availability. Facilities Management will assist individual departments with contracting off-schedule window washing services.
Unsecured doors can result in unauthorized access to buildings and interior spaces. Doors should never be propped open to circumvent building security. Malfunctioning door locks or hardware should be reported to Facilities Management.
The Department of Public Safety and Police Services (DPSPS) is responsible for the authorization and issuance of all keys. They also evaluate eligibility for exterior door accessibility using their Husky Card. Learn more about building and room access on the DPSPS website.
If you’d like to request services or report a window or door maintenance issue, please submit a work request. Work requests will typically be reviewed by department staff within 24 hours. With the exception of safety and security concerns, work orders are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Work orders may not be checked on weekends or holidays.
