Lighting & Electrical

Maintenance Services is responsible for maintaining electrical services on campus including campus infrastructure and electrical feeds, building electrical systems and infrastructure, and exterior infrastructure and lighting. Staff provides these services across campus, performing work in residence halls, laboratories, athletic facilities, kitchens, and similar spaces. Campus electricians are supported by building maintenance staff in performing a variety of testing, maintenance, and installation services, including, but  not limited to the following:

  • Campus high-voltage and electrical load balancing
  • Critical infrastructure controls and monitoring systems
  • Building infrastructure and electrical service
  • General fixtures including switches, outlets, lighting, and similar devices
  • Electrical service for appliances, machines, and equipment
  • Exterior lighting, including parking lots, sidewalks, and roadways
  • Emergency generators, lighting, and elevator service
  • Temporary power and lighting needs for special events
  • Interior/exterior lighting systems, including LED retrofits

If you need assistance with electrical services or fixtures, please submit a work request. Work requests will typically be reviewed by department staff within 24 hours. With the exception of safety and security concerns, work orders are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Typical hours of operation for maintenance staff are from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. 

Emergencies such as power outages, inoperable or malfunctioning fixtures please contact the Facilities’ emergency line ([906] 487-0001) so that a response can be expedited.

When submitting requests for new installations or infrastructure improvements, please provide a minimum of 3-4 weeks advance notice to ensure that resources can be allocated to support the proposed improvements.
