Furniture & Equipment Moves

The department regularly assists other units with moving a variety of materials, equipment, and office furnishings. Move requests can vary in size and complexity and the more notice that can be provided for larger-scale moves, the better. The department prefers at least 2-3 weeks advance notice for moves involving multiple rooms, machines/equipment, or laboratories. Furniture moves are typically considered non-critical and may be subject to delays due to scheduled events, weather conditions, or elevator service disruptions.

Grounds staff are not authorized to move computers, wall-mounted televisions, projectors, or similar office technology. Please submit an IT Help-Desk ticket to schedule the disconnection and movement of any IT-related equipment. This work can be coordinated with the Grounds Department, but a scheduled date and time will be required by both departments.  Grounds staff are typically available from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Financial Services and Operations must be notified when capital equipment or property is transferred out of a department or being considered for disposal. The requesting department is responsible for notifying the Property Office and obtaining transfer approval prior to submitting a Facilities’ work request. Please contact your department’s Equipment Coordinator for additional information related to the transfer and disposition of University owned equipment, furniture, and inventory. Equipment Coordinators should be able to provide guidance on general policies and procedures.

Faculty, staff, and students can request moving assistance by submitting a work request through the department’s work order system. General-fund units are typically not charged for moving services. If service charges are anticipated, the requester will be notified prior to the start of work.
