Career Fair
Fall 2025 Career Fair, Tuesday, September 23, 12 noon–5 p.m., Student Development Complex
We are excited to welcome you and your team on campus for the Career Fair. This page will help us provide all the details that will be useful to you and your team during your time recruiting at Michigan Tech.
If you have questions or concerns before Career Fair, please email us at careerfair@mtu.edu.
Booth locations will be shown in Handshake a few days before the Career Fair.
If you are looking to ship any displays or supplies to campus before Career Fair please use the following shipping information to ensure that your packages are delivered and ready for you. Since we are located in the Upper Peninsula shipping times can take longer than normal. Please plan accordingly to ensure there is enough time for your items to arrive before Career Fair.
Any items that arrive on campus marked for Career Fair will be delivered to your booth locations.
Send displays to:
Michigan Tech Central Receiving
**Attn: Career Fair**
1400 Townsend Dr.
Houghton, MI 49931
Where can I find the packages I shipped to the Career Fair?
Your packages will be delivered directly to your booth as long as they have arrived by the time the event starts. You’ll find them on your assigned table at the Fair.
Can I access my packages before the Career Fair?
Not easily. Given the large number of companies and packages shipped to the Career Fair, this can be challenging. Please contact Career Services for additional help, for instance if you are attending a Fest day right before Career Fair. There are hundreds of boxes that tend to look the same, so finding a package may be challenging. A tracking number and who signed for something at MTU can help with the search.
How do I ship something?
We can print any shipping labels that you may need, if you forgot one. Package up anything that you need to and have it clearly labelled (including shipping labels!). We will stash all packages near the loading dock; packages will be picked up the day after the fair.
If I have extra giveaways at the end of the day, will you take them?
Absolutely! Please leave all extra goodies (swag) on top of your booth’s table. We will collect them after the fair is closed and use them in Career Services.
What will I do with my packages at the end of the day that need to be shipped?
The companies should leave the packages that need to be shipped out right in front of their booth. Student workers will be around at the end of the day to grab the packages and bring them to the shipping area.
Will you have any packing slips?
Please ensure that your packing slips, shipping labels, etc. are prepared and handled ahead of time - all packages should already be set for return shipping.
Do you provide boxes for shipping my things out?
No. We cannot help provide boxes for shipments and the company is expected to provide their own shipping boxes and containers.

How are details about the fair communicated?
When your company registered for the Career Fair, the "Registrant" in Handshake is recorded in the system. All the technical communication and clarification of details about the Career Fair are emails to the registrant. It is important that this person within your organization share this information with actual recruiters attend the event.
The majors and job types I want to hire aren’t showing up in Handshake.
Information about open positions, types of majors, types of jobs, etc. are all set during the Career Fair registration process in Handshake. If you find something isn’t correct with the way your jobs are being displayed, this means your registration needs to be edited. You can edit your own registration until the fair begins. After that time, visit our employer help desk for changes to your registration.
How many fairs do you have during an academic year?
Typically, Michigan Tech has a Fall and Spring Career Fair. These fairs are open to all students from all majors and colleges on campus. There are also many smaller fairs for specific majors or other purposes.
Complete details on current and future fairs are available at: https://www.mtu.edu/career/fair/
Typically, fair registration will open after the previous fair is completed.
Why is my registration still pending?
When you register for the Career Fair, we ask that you pay your invoice within 10
days of registration or make special arrangements for payment. Career Fair registration
is not approved until one of these conditions is met. Once payment is received, your
registration will be approved within 24 hours. For details about how to pay your
invoice, please read: https://support.
Check your registration for accuracy
You can view what students will see using the “Student View” of the fair using the following steps:
-
Open an incognito browser window (so that you aren’t logged in to Handshake)
-
Paste the Student View into your browser:
https://mtu.joinhandshake.com/
-
Search for your company name
-
If your listing doesn’t show “Majors” or “Major Groups” in the display, students filtering by major won’t be able to find you.
-
If key fields like “Employment Type” or “Job Type” are missing from your registration, students won’t be able to filter by those fields.

Enhancing Your Majors
Michigan Tech has a growing list of majors that is constantly evolving. If you’d
like to grow the number of students who will visit your booth, please consider adding
majors to your registration.
-
MTU majors web page for exploration
-
Type in job titles or job attributes to see which majors may match your needs
-
Consider adding these to your fair registration
Editing your registration
It depends upon the exact permissions your company has granted your Handshake account, but you can edit your registration until the day before the Career Fair. Detailed instructions for how to do this are available in Handshake’s help database.
Where will my booth be?
Booth locations become available about one week before the fair. We cannot start assigning booths until fair registration has closed. Each booth will be uniquely addressed with a letter/number designation.
What should I bring for my booth?
Most companies will bring some sort of pop-up trade show banner with information about
the career opportunities available. Keep in mind that all display items must fit within
the parameters of your booth space.
Other items we have seen:
- Small poster showing current job openings
- Swag items for students
- Display screens or tables to highlight opportunities available using videos or other interactive media
Why is the booth limited to four people?
Given the crowded nature of the fair, we ask that you honor our space requirements. A single 6 foot table (8 foot space) is wide enough for four people. If you plan on bringing more recruiters, you’ll need to purchase an additional table. Overcrowding your booth is frustrating to companies in neighboring booths.
Will I receive a tablecloth?
By default, your booth will not have tablecloths provided. If you do not have your own tablecloth, we can provide a simple, plain tablecloth for your booth.
Can I get more space or move my booth once I see my location?
No, each company is assigned an equal amount of space. Please do not move your table or adjust your location in any way.
Will I have power?
Each booth has access to traditional “wall outlet” power designed for standard office computers or displays. Feel free to flag someone down or use the text support line to ask for assistance.
What is the address for the Student Development Complex (SDC)?
The Student Development Complex (SDC) is located at this street address: 600 Macinnes Drive, Houghton, MI 49931
You will also see signs for the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The ice arena and the SDC are connected.
Will there be food/refreshments/hospitality?
The hospitality suite is available for recruiters during the day of the fair in the MacInnes Ice Arena. During most hours of operation, it will be stocked with light refreshments and tables/chairs to find a space to relax. There is also a Partner Program-exclusive lounge located in the E-Sports facility.
Does the facility have a lactation room?
The lactation room is located at the end of the hallway that goes past the Varsity Gym.
Where can I smoke or vape on campus?
As of January 12, 2015, the Michigan Technological University campus is tobacco free, smoke free and vapor free. Smoking, smoke-free tobacco and vapor use are prohibited.
Do you have wheelchairs or other mobility/accessibility assistance?
The Student Development Complex (SDC) has ample parking and curb cuts, and a limited number of wheelchairs are available to borrow. Please let us know if you need one provided. The building itself is fully ADA compliant.
Will I be able to borrow a dolly or a cart to help move my boxes and/or booth display?
You will be greeted by members of the Pep Band to assist with move-in; you will pull up to the building and have a chance to unload at that time closer to the entrance. There are also carts available to borrow for load-out at the end of the day.
Can you help me carry things to my car?
We’d prefer it if you bring your car around to the loading/unloading point and we can help you put equipment back in your vehicle.
Is there food provided?
The timing and location of food can vary from year to year. Specific details about food options provided will be described in the fair registration. In general, you should be able to stay at the event all day without needing to leave to find food during the run of the show.
Your booth should have two bottles of water to start the day. Additionally, a student worker will be walking around all day with a cooler to provide water for the companies and to pick up any empties. Refreshments are also available in the Hospitality Suites.
When will I receive my name tag?
When you arrive! Just inside the SDC, there is an employer name tags station where you will be able to quickly print off your name tags. We also offer “flags” that attach to the Name tag that showcase your status as an Alum or being a member of the Career Services Partner Program.
Is there a difference between student and employer name tags?
Yes. Student name tags are printed at a different station and include the student’s major; the students have a yellow lanyard compared to the employers’ black ones. Employer name tags will feature the company information and are generated at a different print station.
What do the flags on student name tags mean?
Student name tags are printed with their preferred first name and their major. Students can add flags to their name tags that highlight their involvement in some student activities – specifically: Enterprise Program, Student Athletes, Graduate Students, etc. The programs help students highlight the additional programs they are involved with during their academic experience.
Can I recycle my name tag at the end of the day?
Yes! Please either leave your name tags at your table or drop them into one of the designated lanyard recycling bins. We will reuse as much as we can.
Is there WiFi on-site?
Please connect to the “MichiganTechGuest” WiFi network. You’ll need to open a web browser and follow the prompts to connect.
Can I get copies or print something at the event?
We can make small-batch of copies of documents either ahead of time or on-site - please contact careerfair@mtu.edu to get this sorted. On the day, there will be a staffed print station to assist you. We recommend you email files or bring a flash drive, as many people find it difficult to use their company devices to print.
Do you provide clipboards etc.?
We have a limited supply of office supplies. We may or may not be able to provide you something, but do ask.
When will I get my parking pass?
Parking passes will be given to you on arrival at the Fair, and are good for the duration of the week (to include Interview Day, for instance).
Where will I park for the Career Fair?
There is ample parking available at the event venue and you will be given directions to the nearest parking when you arrive.
Where will I park on Interview Day?
Your career fair parking pass is good for the interview day and you will have access to all visitor lots and parking meters.
Can I host an info session/lunch/etc. before the Fair?
Yes. Handshake is our system for scheduling and informing campus about sessions. After a request is submitted, Career Services will review the request and assign a room. Room reservations can take up to 48 hours to be granted. When an info session is approved, you will receive an email from the system with information about how to order catering.
Please refer to Handshake help for assistance: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001027648
When events are approved in Handshake, they are available for all students to view them through Handshake’s calendar. Every night, these events are copied to the university calendar system at events.mtu.edu
What communication is sent to students?
Career Services sends messages to students regularly throughout the semester. Content of these messages is compiled by the Career Services staff. We strongly discourage individual emails with information for students due to potential email saturation. Not all messages from all employers can be included during regularly scheduled communications and preference will be given to companies that are members of the Career Services Partner Program.
Additionally, advertisements for the Fair, Fests, and other information sessions are distributed through platforms such as the Student Scoop, on the Involvement Link student organization calendar, and through the university events page.
Can I reach out to students?
Handshake provides some options for sending messages to students. This is the preferred method of communication to students. Please consult their help at: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/articles/218693318
Can you reach out to students for me to tell them to come to my booth?
No. Given the vast number of companies and options for reaching out to students, we cannot provide any additional services during Career Fair season.

Any additional requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis and availability. Please check at the Interview Day Table in the SDC during Career Fair to request or cancel a space.
