When moving in, residents will be issued a key that opens their room and mailbox. Throughout the academic year, residents are required to:
- Keep exterior building doors secured
- Escort their guest(s)/visitor(s) at all times
- Report any unusual circumstances to the residence hall staff immediately
Residents are strongly advised to lock their rooms whenever they leave to safeguard themselves, personal belongings, and University equipment.
Unauthorized possession and/or misuse of keys will be subject to disciplinary action, termination of the resident’s contract, or both. Residents are expected to secure their keys at all times. Immediately report lost keys to the residence hall reception desk and obtain a temporary key.
Lockouts
- The first two weeks of the semester are considered a grace period for all residents. During this time, no resident will be charged for temporary keys or lockouts resolved by resident assistants.
- If a resident is locked out while their reception desk is open, they may go to the desk to receive a temporary key or access card. Residents who are locked out and need to use a temporary key must return the key immediately after unlocking their room door and must show reception desk staff that they have possession of their original key.
- If a resident is locked out after the reception desk has closed, they may call the DUTY Phone at (906) 487-3889 and a resident assistant will unlock the resident’s room door
- After the two week grace period, each resident will receive two room lockouts free of charge. Subsequent lockouts incur a fee billed to the student’s account ($10 at the front desk, $15 via the RA).
Lost Keys
There is a $15-$110 charge for lost keys. This fee covers the cost of the core change
and replacement keys. Report lost keys for your building to your reception desk.
The charge to replace the cores and keys are as follows:
Wadsworth Hall Room - $100
East Hall Room-$100
East Hall Mailbox- $15
McNair Hall Room - $100
Douglass Houghton Hall Room - $100
Douglass Houghton Hall Mailbox - $15 per key
Daniell Heights Apartment - $100
Daniell Heights Storage Unit - $100
