2025 Alumni Reunion Recap

The Office of Alumni Engagement hosted more than 330 alumni and friends during Alumni Reunion 2025. Alumni ranging from the Class of 1954 to the Class of 2016 returned to campus for a weekend full of activities. Forty-five alumni from the Class of 1975 were present to celebrate their 50th reunion and induction into the Golden M Society.

Michigan Technological University Presidential Council of Alumnae (PCA) members are recognized for exceptional personal and professional achievements in all facets of life—including education and career excellence, community involvement, volunteerism, their past involvement as a student, and their current relationship with Michigan Tech.

A new slate of nominated and selected graduates are inducted into this notable Council every other year. Members meet annually on campus, and many choose to serve Michigan Tech through a variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities.

2025 Alumni Award Winners

Robert J. Currey '67

Distinguished Alumni Award

Currey (BS Business Administration) worked at General Motors for 18 months before deciding to pursue his MBA from Eastern Michigan University. He began his telecommunications career with Michigan Bell, where he worked for 14 years prior to joining Sprint. He later served Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc. as president (1990-97), CEO (2004-14), chairman (2015-24), and executive chairman (2025). Together with his wife, Pam, he established the Robert & Pamela Currey Endowed Scholarship Award.

Outstanding Service Award

Hartley (BS Forestry) ended up working in the financial industry. He became president of a division of Citibank and later retired as senior vice president at Northern Trust. His more than 30 years of continuous service to Michigan Tech includes the Michigan Tech Fund Board, the President's Advancement Council, and the College of Business Dean's Advisory Council. In 2017, the Hartley/Dobson Family Annual Scholarship Fund was established in homage to the family's connection to the University.

Jeffrey C. Littmann

Honorary Alumni Award

Littmann has served on Michigan Tech's Board of Trustees since 2019 and is the chair of its audit and finance committee. He was elected and served two consecutive terms as board chair. Littmann also serves ex officio on the Michigan Tech Fund Board of Directors and contributes his financial expertise to its investment committee. On top of his work as a trustee, Littmann and his family have provided philanthropic support to the Tech Trails, Outdoor Adventure Program, and the Mushing Club at Michigan Tech.

Barbie Laderman-Jones '92

Humanitarian Award

Laderman-Jones (BS Biological Sciences) has served in leadership positions at multiple animal shelters in California. She is also a published scholar in her field. She has dedicated her career to helping animals across the globe. Laderman-Jones' leadership positions include those at San Francisco SPCA and Placer SPCA. She has also participated in volunteer MASH-style spay/neuter clinics around the world, and has worked with multiple animal welfare organizations that aim to improve access to veterinary care.

Peter H. Winegar '17

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Winegar (BS Chemistry) has dedicated his life to an academic career in chemistry. After graduating from Tech in 2017, Winegar went on to graduate school at Northwestern University, where he received his PhD in Chemistry in 2022. He is currently a National Institutes of Health Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NIH NRSA F32) postdoctoral fellow at the University of California at Berkeley. He has authored 12 publications and is an inventor on two patent applications.
