Anyone purchasing from Amazon on behalf of Michigan Tech, must do so via the Amazon Business account with a University Purchasing Card (P-Card). ALL P-Card holders must transfer and/or activate their Amazon Business account using their @mtu.edu email.
All items purchased online (including Amazon) must be shipped to a Michigan Tech address. Shipping to a personal or residential address is strictly prohibited. Your shipping address should include:

What Product Categories are NOT available to purchase?
Michigan Tech has identified specific products that do not comply with the University’s purchasing policies. These categories will be flagged with non-compliant messaging on the product detail page and business order information page. Please contact Purchasing for further questions.
Can I use the Michigan Tech Amazon Business account for personal use?
No, the centralized Michigan Tech Amazon Business Account must be used for business purchases only, in accordance with our purchasing policies. The Michigan Tech Purchasing department will have access to all purchasing history made through the centralized Amazon Business account.

How do I enroll in the Michigan Tech Amazon Business account?
Michigan Tech employees with a University Purchasing Card (P-Card) who wish to enroll may send a request to email@example.com. Once processed, you will receive an activation email directly from Amazon.com with the subject line, Welcome to Amazon Business. The activation period is time sensitive; please take action as soon as possible.
How do I activate my Michigan Tech Amazon Business account?
Activate your Amazon Business account by selecting “Accept the Invitation”. The first time you access Amazon Business, you will be prompted to create an Amazon Business account. You must use your @mtu.edu email address for your Amazon Business account.
I already used my @mtu.edu email address to register for a verified Business account, now what?
All previous, stand-alone, Amazon Business accounts must be consolidated under the centralized Michigan Tech account. Prior to joining the Michigan Tech account, you will need to de-register your account. Visit https://amazon.com/gp/b2b/manage/deregister to complete the de-registration process before accessing Amazon Business for the first time. If you have additional users tied to your Business account, you will need to remove these users before you can de-register the account. Please note, the migration of your account will not impact your purchasing process and you will log in using your same user credentials.
What if I already use my @mtu.edu email address to make PERSONAL Amazon.com purchases?
If your @mtu.edu email address is already associated with an Amazon.com account, you will have the option to split off and transfer any purchase history to a separate account. You will be prompted to enter a new, personal, email address (e.g. gmail.com or Hotmail.com).

Can I use my personal credit card and get reimbursed for Amazon purchases?
No, moving forward if you are going to make a purchase on Amazon it must be through the centralized Michigan Tech business account and the payment method must be via your University P-Card. If you do not have a P-Card, please contact your Supervisor.
How do I get FREE Two-Day Shipping?
Through our centralized account, you will get unlimited fast, FREE Two-Day shipping on millions of eligible items. Products eligible for Business Prime Shipping will be designated with a “Prime” logo on the product page and at checkout.
Are my purchases automatically tax exempt?
Michigan Tech will have their tax exempt status applied to eligible purchases from Amazon.com LLC, Amazon Digital Services LLC, Warehouse Deals LLC, Amazon Services LLC or other participating sellers.
Why is there tax on my order?
Amazon Tax Exemption is available for qualifying purchases made directly from Amazon.com LLC, Amazon Digital Services LLC, Warehouse Deals LLC, Amazon Services LLC, or other participating sellers and ordered using the Amazon Business account where you have active exemptions. Tax may still be calculated for items you order from sellers who do not participate in Amazon’s Tax Exemption Program.
How do I request a tax refund on Third Party orders?
- Log in to your Amazon Business account and go to “Orders”
- Locate the item that was charged tax and click the “Contact the Seller” button
- If the button is not there, call the Amazon Tax Exemption support line at 1-888-280-9552
- Enter the subject as Tax Exemption Refund Request
- Include the order number and the amount charged
- The seller is required to respond within 72 hours. The seller may ask for some additional information or they may simply issue the refund
If tax is showing up on your orders in the state where you have an active exemption and the product(s) was sold by Amazon.com LLC or Amazon Digital Services, Inc., or sold by other sellers and fulfilled by Amazon, please contact customer service at 866-486-2360.
I purchased a Prime Membership with my P-Card. Can I receive a refund now that I have joined the Michigan Tech Business account?
Yes, navigate to Manage My Prime Membership > End Membership and follow the steps to cancel your Prime membership without having to reach out to Customer Service. The pro-rated refund will be automatically calculated and issued to you. Please note: Customer Service Agents will not be able to issue a pro-rated refund for you if you call to “cancel your Prime membership".
How do I return items?
You can return many items sold on Amazon.com. When you return an item, you may see different return options depending on the seller, item, or reason for return. Go to the Online Returns Center.
