RTC—Applying

Applying to Graduate Programs in Rhetoric & Technical Communication is a multi-step process. Please note carefully which documents are to be sent to the Graduate School Office, and which documents are to be sent to the RTC Program.

Application Deadline

In order to receive full consideration for Departmental financial assistance beginning the following Fall semester, you must complete the application process by January 15th. Applications may be considered after the January 15th deadline, though financial support will be awarded based on limited availability. To determine the availability of funding after the deadline, contact Director of Graduate Studies Michael Bowler.

Applying to the RTC Program

Prospective students should apply online at: http://www.mtu.edu/gradschool/admissions/apply

Applications will not be complete until all of the following items are received. These can all be submitted online and should be received by the Michigan Tech Graduate School. 

Item 1A Michigan Tech Graduate School Application
Item 2Three letters of recommendation from people knowledgeable about your academic abilities. We prefer that most of your letters of recommendation come from faculty members with whom you have studied.
Item 3Your official transcripts.
Item 4Your Statement of Purpose. (This will be carefully considered by the RTC Graduate Committee.)
Item 5A writing sample that illustrates your work and intellectual interests.
Item 6A curriculum vitae (CV)/Resume

(If Applicable)
Your official TOEFL scores if English is not your native language. Preferred scores are 600 PBT, 250 CBT and 100 IBT. Lower scores need not apply.
