Transfer to Michigan Tech as an Engineering Major

Welcome prospective engineering transfer students!

Whether you started your academic path at a community college or another university, Michigan Tech is an excellent place to complete your studies. We offer 15+ degree programs in engineering and applied sciences and the engineering program advisors to help you succeed.

If you would like to transfer to Michigan Tech, please review the transfer information both in Admissions and Transfer Services.

Help is available for transfer equivalency.

Anyone who has taken college courses after completing high school or earning a GED is considered a transfer student.

Review transfer equivalency listings, and contact the transfer success coach in your engineering department if you have questions or concerns regarding course equivalency. The College of Engineering strives to recognize your academic achievement. We review each scenario to find the best fit for each student.

Michigan Tech has dedicated transfer services.

Michigan Technological University maintains a full-time Transfer Services Office for new, current, and readmitted students intending to transfer courses to Michigan Tech.

Michigan Tech participates in the Michigan Transfer Agreement. It was developed to simplify the transferability of core college courses from Michigan community colleges to Michigan universities.

Transfer students are eligible for financial aid.

Transfer students have access to virtually the same array of financial aid as incoming first-year students, as well as some scholarships just for transfer students. Michigan resident transfer students who have applied and been accepted for admissions are automatically considered for the Michigan Tech Transfer Scholarship award. Non-residents may be eligible for the National Transfer Scholarship.

Orientation and mentoring are included.

All transfer students with over 30 credits that have paid their deposit are automatically registered for Transfer Student Orientation by the Waino Wahtera Center for Student Success. The center provides a Transfer Assistant to make your transition easier, as well as supplying tips for success.

International students can receive transfer credit.

Transfer credit is determined by the appropriate academic department for equivalent content. Michigan Tech reserves the right to award transfer credit following its own policies and procedures. Work with International Admissions first if you wish to take courses in your home country or other countries.
