At Michigan Tech, our student athletes are smart. Really smart. And there’s nothing quite like watching a bunch of really smart kids kick butt on the basketball court. And the soccer field. And the ski trail. And . . . well, you get the picture.
Varsity athletics
At Michigan Tech, varsity athletics is marked by a strong tradition of success and characterized by student athletes who understand that commitment, community, and spirit are every bit as important as a winning score. Our Huskies compete in NCAA Division I men’s hockey, and in numerous other Division II sports. And don’t forget—students receive free admission to all athletic events, giving you plenty of opportunities to cheer your Huskies to victory!
Men’s Varsity Teams
Women’s Varsity Teams
Our teams have spirit, and they have fun—but they also have results. During the 2010–2011 season . . .
- The men’s Nordic ski team won the overall team title at the Central Collegiate Ski Association.
- The women’s soccer team exceeded all expectations during its inaugural season, winning seven games and debuting at number seven in the first NCAA Midwest Regional Poll of the season.
- Tech’s football team earned a national ranking of 22.
- The women’s basketball team, which spent a large part of the season ranked number one, finished with perhaps an even more important number one: collectively, team members earned the nation’s top grade point average.

Intramural Sports
Even outside of varsity athletics, our students are all about adventure, fun, and competition . . . and nowhere is that more true than in our IM programs.
We offer individual and team intramural sports throughout the year. Fall sports include basketball, water polo, softball, ultimate Frisbee, disc golf, riflery, and wallyball—volleyball in a racquetball court. Spring sports include floor hockey, dodgeball, soccer, table tennis, billiards tournament, and a swim meet.
Thanks to the Experience Tech initiative, you’ll have unlimited access to intramural sports.
