Michigan Technological University pleased to recognize exceptional students who have actively competed on a FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge team, or in VEX Robotics during their high school career.
Michigan Resident Value: Eight Michigan resident students will be awarded scholarships valued at $5,000 per year. The scholarship is renewable for four years (eight semesters) of full-time undergraduate study based upon meeting renewal criteria.
Non-Resident Value: Ten non-resident students will be awarded scholarships valued at $14,000 per year. The scholarship is renewable for four years (eight semesters) of full-time undergraduate study based upon meeting renewal criteria.
Students receiving a Presidential Scholars Program, National Scholars Program, or International Ambassador scholarship and who are selected for a FIRST Scholarship will receive the award with the highest value—students can not receive both awards.
Non-resident students receiving the Alumni Legacy Award or Military Family Education Award are not eligible to receive a FIRST Scholarship.
Who Should Apply
Current high school seniors who have actively competed on a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team during their high school career are invited to apply.
Students who have participated in VEX Robotics will also be considered. Please indicate VEX on your scholarship application.
How to Apply
- Students must apply for admission to Michigan Tech by November 15 of their senior year.
- Complete the scholarship application by November 15.
Application Deadline and Other Important Dates
- November 15: FIRST Scholarship applications are due by 11:59 p.m. (eastern). You must also have an application for admission on file by this date.
- January 15: Award recipients and applicants are notified.
