Being a Thompson Scholar at Michigan Tech means more than receiving a scholarship—it means becoming part of a connected, supportive community. From welcome events and social gatherings to volunteer opportunities and mentorship, Scholars build lasting friendships and a strong network that extends beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, you’ll engage in experiences that foster collaboration, personal growth, and a sense of belonging, all while honoring the generosity of the Thompson Foundation.
A Connected Community
Being a Thompson Scholar at Michigan Tech means joining a supportive and engaged community. From the moment you’re welcomed into the program, you’ll find a strong network of peers, mentors, and opportunities that help you grow both personally and professionally.
Welcome Events for Scholars
Each August, new Thompson Scholars are invited to a special welcome and orientation. It’s a chance to meet fellow scholars and connect with returning students who help set the tone for a supportive and collaborative environment.
Social Events and Gatherings
Throughout the year, we host a variety of events designed to build relationships and deepen your connection with the program. Group volunteer opportunities, socials, meals, and informal coffee-chats are just a few ways scholars come together.
When our partners from the Thompson Foundation visit campus, students get the unique chance to meet the people who make this experience possible.
