Housing 2026-27: Your Housing Journey Begins

It's time to begin planning your housing journey for the upcoming academic year. Wherever you are in your Husky experience, from preparing for your second year to shaping your final chapter here at Tech, we’re here to help you map out your housing adventure.

As you plan your next steps, remember that campus housing offers a variety of experiences to match your lifestyle and preferences (if you are a prospective student, check out our New and Transfer Student Housing Contract Process webpage).

Choose Your Husky Path

  • Want to be at the center of Husky Life in a large community? Our traditional residence halls are designed for social engagement, allowing you to share your living experience with many fellow Huskies.
  • Looking for more control of your living experience with a close-knit group of friends? Consider the modern amenities of suite-style living in East Hall, where a party of four friends can venture forth and shape their own community.
  • Ready to try independent living while staying connected to the campus community? Hillside Apartments offer full apartment amenities including kitchens, single bedrooms, and shared living rooms so you can have the best of both worlds of living on campus and enjoying apartment life.

Now is the time to take action and explore the housing experience you might want for the next year so you can find the right fit. Tour the halls, talk to residents, and connect with roommates to see what feels like home. When it's time for contract renewal this spring, you'll be ready to claim your spot.

Your Preparation Checklist

Every journey goes more smoothly with the right preparation. Before you begin the contract renewal process, take a few key steps to make sure you’re ready:

1. Before you sign any housing agreement, check in with Financial Aid (and family, when appropriate).

Understand how housing choices may affect your financial aid package. Some scholarships require two years of on-campus residency (sometimes more), so confirm your requirements before signing any agreement. Please note that signing a non-campus housing contract does not release you from scholarship requirements or a campus Housing contract. A housing contract is a serious financial commitment, so we encourage you to weigh all of your options before signing an agreement.

2. Explore Our Communities Early.

Each hall has its own personality. Visit spaces, talk to current residents, and see which community feels like the right next step for you.

3. Plan with Potential Roommates.

In order to claim a space, you must fill that space. Whether you want to live in a double or if you are interested in residing in East Hall or Hillside as a party of four, you’ll need a full group to fill the room or suite. Start the conversation now so you and your roommate group is ready when room selection begins.

4. Stay Informed.

Watch your MTU email for updates about the renewal timeline and instructions, which will be coming out in late fall for the renewal process that begins in early spring. Having accurate information will help you move forward with confidence.

5. Stay Focused on Reliable Information.

As you prepare, make sure the information you’re using is up to date and accurate. Programs that were offered in past years to address housing demand are no longer available. Housing will not be offering mass merit waivers, or contract release programs. Rely on current guidance from Housing so you can move forward with confidence.

6. We’re Here to Help.

If you have questions, reach out to the Housing team at housing@mtu.edu or call 906-487-2682. We are here to guide you through this process and help you make informed decisions.
